Spacebus Morocco

In 2016, alongside a group of passionate colleagues, I co-founded Spacebus Morocco. Our goal was simple: to bring astronomy and space sciences to people across Morocco, no matter where they lived. On May 14 of that year, Spacebus was officially launched, and by the fall, we were on the road. From September 29 to October 29, we traveled through cities like Ouarzazate, Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, and many others. Along the way, we reached more than 13,000 people through public talks, school visits, and stargazing nights, sharing the excitement of the Universe with people of all ages.

That first journey was an eye-opener. It showed us how powerful it is to connect with communities directly and bring science into their everyday lives. Since then, we’ve stayed true to that mission—apporter la science chez l’habitant (bringing science to the people)—and it has continued to shape all of our activities.

In 2024, we faced a new challenge. The 4th African Astronomical Society (AfAS) conference was scheduled to take place in Morocco, but just before it began, the country was struck by a devastating earthquake in Marrakech, Al Haouz, and the surrounding regions. With so many lives turned upside down, it became clear that our role was not just to teach but to support those affected. During the conference, Spacebus and our partners organized special events for the communities impacted by the disaster, offering moments of learning, discovery, and connection. We combined our love for science with the spirit of resilience, showing how science can be a source of strength even in difficult times.
